Cost-Effective Security Enhancements Using Modern Galvanized Razor Wire

Case Overview

An industrial manufacturing facility located in Houston was experiencing recurrent night-time intrusions through its rear fence boundary. The existing 2.1-meter chain-link fence allowed trespassers to climb over easily, leading to the theft of copper piping and raw aluminum stock stored in the open yard. The management required a cost-effective, high-deterrence solution that could be integrated directly into their current physical security setup.

The Project Solution

Instead of replacing the perimeter, the facility chosen to integrate heavy BTO-22 razor wire loops directly onto the existing framework. This lightweight yet highly aggressive addition transformed an easily scalable chain link mesh into a formidable psychological and physical obstacle.

The installation sequence prioritized high-speed deployment across the entire northern boundary:

  • Support Brackets: 50cm extension arms were bolted to the top of every galvanized fence post.
  • Line Straining: Two lines of high-tensile spring steel wire were pulled taut to act as the primary structural support tracking line.
  • Coil Placement: The standard BTO-22 spiral loops were stretched evenly across the wire and bound securely with heavy galvanized tie wire every 300mm.

Performance & Material Metrics

  • Total Installation Length: 620 linear meters
  • Coil Diameter Selected: 450mm single-coil BTO-22 configuration
  • Zinc Coating Density: 80 g/m² (Hot-dip galvanized for weather resistance)
  • Blade Dimension: 22mm length with 15mm width (Standard medium blade)

Project Return on Investment

Zero successful breaches recorded in 18 months, saving an estimated $35,000 annually in lost scrap metals and tool replacement costs.
